1980 Bristol 40 Yawl
“Black Magic”
Description
Black Magic is an especially appealing example of the Bristol 40 yawl, a well-regarded Ted Hood and Dieter Empacher design known for graceful proportions, solid construction and comfortable cruising manners. Her keel-centerboard configuration combines a 4’ board-up draft with the windward ability of a 7’ 10” board-down draft, allowing her to explore shallower cruising grounds without giving up the capability to stretch out on a longer passage.
Black Magic has benefited from consistent care and steady investment, supported by a detailed maintenance history covering her sails, canvas, refrigeration, charging system, rigging, ground tackle and engine systems. She presents as a boat that has been used, cared for and continually improved rather than simply stored and allowed to accumulate deferred projects.
Her yawl rig provides a versatile and manageable sail plan, while the custom teak interior, Raymarine navigation electronics, solar charging, Sea Frost refrigeration, hot and cold pressure water, cabin heat and generous tankage make her a practical cruising boat. For a sailor seeking classic lines, proven construction and the character of a traditional yacht, Black Magic offers a distinctive platform for coastal cruising, club sailing or extended voyaging.
