1991 Southern Wind 72
“FORTUNATO”
Description
FORTUNATO is a distinguished example of the Southern Wind 72, a performance cruising yacht designed by renowned naval architect Bruce Farr. As hull number one of just nine yachts built in this series, she represents an appealing combination of sophisticated design, sailing performance, and timeless craftsmanship.
Her sleek dark blue hull, powerful sail plan, and graceful proportions reflect her performance-oriented heritage, while her center cockpit configuration and spacious deck layout offer the accommodations and amenities expected of a substantial cruising yacht. Wide side decks, generous fore and aft deck spaces, and running rigging led aft to the cockpit complement a versatile sailing arrangement suited to both cruising and competitive sailing.
Below decks, FORTUNATO offers an inviting interior finished in beautifully varnished, honey-colored teak, complemented by traditional teak and holly soles. Her four-cabin, three-head layout provides accommodations for owners, guests, and crew, including a spacious aft master stateroom, a comfortable VIP guest cabin, and two additional forward cabins. The generous main saloon features an expansive dining area, while the well-equipped galley offers the amenities and storage associated with extended time aboard.
Throughout her ownership, FORTUNATO has benefited from an extensive program of maintenance, equipment upgrades, and cosmetic improvements. Notable work includes a reported 2025 Volvo Penta engine overhaul, substantial electrical and lighting upgrades, replacement running rigging, updated canvas, and improvements to the vessel’s interior accommodations.
For the discerning sailor seeking a pedigree performance cruiser with the space, character, and versatility of a 72-foot yacht, FORTUNATO presents a compelling opportunity.

Broker's Comments
FORTUNATO is the first of nine yachts built in the Bruce Farr 72 series, a design recognized for its exceptional sailing characteristics.
For listing and search purposes, the builder has been identified as Southern Wind, consistent with the yacht's commonly associated model designation. However, documentation confirming the original construction yard is not available, and the actual builder has not been independently verified. Prospective buyers should be aware of this distinction when reviewing the vessel's history and specifications.
