2004 J Boats J/109

AVIATO combines the desirable Rhode Island-built TPI construction and proven racing pedigree of the J/109 with an extensive sail inventory, upgraded electronics, and a documented history of ongoing maintenance.

Her recent North 3Di racing sails, comprehensive electronics, professionally maintained racing bottom, and additional racing and offshore sail inventory provide a strong foundation for an owner looking to compete in one-design or handicap racing. The removable cockpit locker provides flexibility for racing and cruising, while the dodger, cockpit cushions, and comfortable two-cabin interior enhance her appeal for weekends and coastal sailing.

For the sailor who enjoys competitive racing but also values comfortable accommodations and the ability to cruise with family and friends, AVIATO offers an excellent combination of performance and versatility.

The J/109 was built by TPI using its SCRIMP resin-infusion process with Baltek end-grain balsa composite construction. Biaxial and unidirectional fiberglass reinforcement and vinylester resin in the outer hull contribute to a strong, lightweight composite structure. The standard deep-draft configuration features a lead-bulb keel and high-aspect-ratio spade rudder, providing excellent stability, responsiveness, and upwind performance.

Engine hours are unknown. No engine-hour records are available, and total operating hours cannot be reliably determined or estimated from the vessel's usage history. An engine survey and sea trial can help a prospective buyer assess the engine's current condition, although neither can establish its total operating hours.

One of the J/109's greatest strengths is her ability to combine serious racing performance with comfortable cruising accommodations. The practical two-cabin layout features a forward V-berth, private aft cabin, and spacious main salon with opposing settees and a folding dining table.

The traditional wood-trimmed interior provides a warm and inviting atmosphere below deck. The L-shaped galley is conveniently located near the companionway and includes a two-burner propane stove with oven, sink, and hot and cold pressure water. A dedicated, forward-facing navigation station provides space for electronics, charts, and passage planning.

The enclosed marine head is located aft to starboard and is equipped with a holding tank and Y-valve, replaced in 2024. Storage is provided throughout the interior, including the large cockpit locker, which can be accessed from the cockpit or through the head compartment.

The combination of two private cabins, a functional galley, comfortable salon, and enclosed head makes AVIATO well suited to weekend cruising, regattas away from home, and coastal passages.
