2009 Silverton 52 Ovation
“Knotty Dogs”
Description
Great Loop Veteran. Triple Volvo IPS. Exceptional Condition.
Knotty Dogs is a remarkably clean 2009 Silverton Ovation 52 that combines the accommodations and entertaining space of a much larger motor yacht with triple Volvo Penta IPS propulsion, joystick maneuverability, and a proven Great Loop cruising history.
Located in Sandusky, Ohio, Knotty Dogs has spent most of her life in freshwater, and it shows. From the condition of her gelcoat and remarkably clear exterior glass to her interior finishes, flybridge and machinery spaces, this is a boat that immediately makes an impression.
Powered by triple Volvo Penta IPS diesels with approximately 1,160 hours, Knotty Dogs offers a combination rarely found in a cruising yacht of this size. IPS joystick control makes close-quarters maneuvering and docking considerably easier, while the triple-engine configuration gives this 52-footer the performance to cover miles when the cruising schedule calls for it.
She has already completed the Great Loop.
But perhaps the biggest surprise aboard Knotty Dogs is the flybridge.
This is not simply an upper helm—it is an enormous enclosed entertaining space. The bridge features extensive seating, dual Garmin multifunction displays, Volvo Penta IPS controls, refrigeration, a grill, excellent storage and screens. Even better, two dedicated reverse-cycle air-conditioning units serve the flybridge, allowing owners and guests to enjoy this space in conditions that would send everyone inside on many other boats.
Those two bridge units are served by their own dedicated seawater pump, separate from the pump serving the remaining four climate-control units aboard. With six air-conditioning systems in total, Knotty Dogs is designed for comfortable cruising across a wide range of conditions and seasons.
Below, the salon is bright and inviting, with opening windows bringing fresh air into the living space. A Samsung television rises from a concealed lift, Bose surround sound provides entertainment, and a dedicated wine cooler is another thoughtful touch.
The accommodations provide three staterooms, including a spacious owner's suite and a versatile third stateroom that can be configured with twin berths or converted into a larger queen berth. A separate washer and dryer make extended cruising and living aboard considerably more convenient.
Outside, synthetic teak decking provides an attractive, low-maintenance appearance from the wide hydraulic swim platform through the cockpit and up toward the flybridge. The hydraulic platform provides an excellent waterside staging area and an easy way to carry and launch a tender.
Knotty Dogs also benefits from dual 50-amp Glendinning shore-power cord reels, FLIR night vision, underwater lighting, an upgraded Garmin electronics package, extensive camera coverage, a powerful audio system and tremendous storage throughout.
The camera system includes engine-room cameras, a backup camera and an interior salon camera, providing additional visibility and awareness aboard.
The engine room itself is another standout. Access and working space are exceptional for a yacht of this size, making routine inspections and maintenance considerably more manageable.
With approximately 1,160 hours on her triple Volvo Penta IPS engines and approximately 450 hours on her Kohler 15.5kW generator, Knotty Dogs presents a compelling combination of performance, maneuverability, luxury and cruising capability.
Her approximately 4-foot draft is another attractive feature for Great Loop cruising, the Bahamas and exploring shallower cruising grounds.
For the buyer looking for a Great Loop-proven motor yacht that doesn't require sacrificing speed, space or entertaining capability, Knotty Dogs deserves serious consideration.
